Ministry of Transport Said Discussions On Singapore-Johor Bahru Link Project Can Be Finalised By End-July

Singapore has revealed expectations that assessments related to the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link campaign might be concluded by the end of July, reported Channel News Asia (CNA).

“Like Malaysia, we are positive that the discussions on the remaining matters can be concluded by the 31 July due date,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport (MOT) advised CNA.

This comes as Singapore and Malaysia have been participated in “intensive review” over the RTS Link campaign, claimed the ministry.

Works on the RTS Link, which was initially set for realization by 2024, has subsequently been suspended.

The suspension had been prolonged three times at the demand of Malaysia. The most recent extension was because of the enforcement of the “circuit breaker” measures to suppress the spread of Covid-19 in Singapore together with Malaysia’s movement control order.

The RTS link will also connect to the Woodlands North MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line.

Johor’s Chief Minister Hasni Mohammad reportedly expects the job to commence work in November.

According to him, both states are set to sign the contract on the task by end-July, reported The Star.

Malaysian Transportation Minister Wee Ka Siong also mentioned it will await the city-state’s brand-new Cabinet to form, provided that Singapore’s General Election have been finished over the weekend.

“If we have the ability to complete the discussions next week, the time would have come for us to seal the contract. We must do all this prior to the 31 July deadline,” mentioned Wee.

To link Woodlands in Singapore to Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru, the RTS Link will serve around 10,000 travelers per hour each way, assisting relieve traffic jam on the Causeway.
